Stress and Burnout
When running on empty becomes normal
Burnout rarely arrives all at once. It builds quietly, through months of doing what needs doing, until rest stops working and everything feels like too much. If you have been calling that normal, this is a place to set the load down for a while.

When effort stops being enough
There is a particular kind of tiredness that sleep does not touch. Work still gets done, but later, and at a cost. You might feel cynical about things you used to care about, short with people closest to you, or strangely flat on a break. Burnout is not a sign you are failing. It usually means you have carried too much for too long with too little support.
What tends to be underneath
Burnout usually has more than one root: a workload that quietly expanded past what any person could hold, plus harder-to-see beliefs, like rest having to be earned or that saying no will let everyone down. We look at both the practical load and the patterns that keep you from protecting your limits, since changing one without the other rarely holds.
Rest is not the reward for burning out. It is part of how good work gets done.
Places we might start
There is no single answer to burnout, so we start where it matters most:
- Boundaries: Practicing where and how to say no without the usual wave of guilt.
- Recovery: Rebuilding real rest into your week instead of the collapse-and-repeat cycle.
- Values: Getting clear on what actually matters so your energy has somewhere worthwhile to go.
- Nervous system: Learning ways to help your body downshift out of constant high alert.
Counseling here is talk and skills work, not medical care, so diagnosis or medication stays with your physician or prescriber. Our sessions focus on lightening the load and helping you feel like a person again, not just a to-do list.
