Affirming Care
Therapy that starts from who you already are
Affirming care is not a badge on a website. It is a starting point: who you are is not the problem to be solved, and therapy should never ask you to explain or defend your identity before the real work begins. You get to arrive as yourself and spend the hour on what you actually came for.

What affirming actually means here
You should not have to educate your therapist about your own life. I work from genuine respect for your identity, your relationships, and the language you use for yourself, and keep learning rather than leaning on assumptions. Whatever brought you in is the focus, and your identity is never treated as the automatic cause of it.
Sometimes that identity is central to the work, sometimes it is simply part of who is in the room. Both are fine, and you decide which it is on any given day.
What we might focus on
The work is whatever you need it to be. Some common threads:
- Everyday stress: We work with anxiety, low mood, and the ordinary weight of a demanding week.
- Coming out: We move at your pace, on your terms, with no timeline imposed from the outside.
- Relationships and family: We make room for dating, partnership, and family reactions as they are.
- Minority stress: We name the tiredness of staying on guard and how much energy it quietly takes.
Being able to lower your guard for one hour a week is not a small thing.
For individuals and couples alike
I work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples, drawing on solution focused therapy along with CBT, ACT, and DBT skills where a practical tool helps. For couples, that can mean navigating differences in being out, family reactions, or ordinary relationship friction, none of which is a sign something is wrong with you or your partner.
This is talk based counseling rather than diagnosis or medication, so if either becomes useful, I can point you toward an affirming medical provider. Tampa clients can meet in person, and anyone in Florida can work with me by secure telehealth.
How the work goes
An affirming path from first contact.
- 01
Consultation
We begin with a free 15 minute consultation to talk through what brings you in and whether we are a good fit.
- 02
A plan that fits you
We build a plan around your goals and your identity, never around assumptions.
- 03
Steady progress
From there we meet at a steady pace, notice what is helping, and adjust the plan as life changes.
Begin when you're ready.
Reach out and we will find a time that works. Sessions are available at the Tampa office or by telehealth.
