For Both Partners

Couples therapy for two people on the same side

When two people care about each other and still keep missing, the trouble is usually the pattern between them, not a shortage of love. The same conversation loops back and both partners walk away feeling unheard. Couples therapy is a chance to slow that loop down together, in a room where neither of you has to win.

Not a search for who is at fault

My role is not to referee arguments or decide who is right. It is to help each of you say the thing that sits underneath the argument, the worry or need that usually stays hidden, and make sure it lands with the other person. We look at how conversations start, where they go sideways, and what each of you is really reaching for.

Both of you get to be a full person here, not the caricature built up over years of friction. When each partner hears what the other is really asking for, the same disagreement can feel less like a threat and more like useful information.

Common reasons couples come in

Couples arrive at every stage and for all sorts of reasons. Some of the most common:

  • The same argument on repeat: We slow down the loop that keeps returning no matter the topic.
  • Rebuilding trust: We make room to work through a betrayal, a long distance, or a broken agreement.
  • Big decisions together: We create space for choices about money, family, or where to live.
  • Feeling like roommates: We look at how closeness faded into logistics and what might invite it back.

Most couples do not need to argue less. They need the argument to finally go somewhere.

Tools you can take home

Alongside the deeper conversations, we build practical communication skills, drawn from CBT and DBT, that you can practice between sessions when the stakes are low. Small changes in how you open a hard topic tend to matter more than any single breakthrough, and you leave with something specific to try.

Couples work is talk based counseling for the relationship itself, so it does not involve diagnosis or medication. If one of you needs that kind of care, I can help you find the right provider.

How the work goes

A balanced path from first contact.

  1. 01

    Consultation

We begin with a free 15 minute consultation to talk through what brings you in and whether we are a good fit.

  2. 02

    A plan that fits you

We agree on what the two of you want to work on, with sessions that keep both voices balanced.

  3. 03

    Steady progress

From there we meet at a steady pace, notice what is helping, and adjust the plan as life changes.

Begin when you're ready.

Reach out and we will find a time that works. Sessions are available at the Tampa office or by telehealth.
