Confidence and Self-Worth
A kinder, steadier relationship with yourself
For some people the harshest voice in the room is their own. Self-esteem work is about noticing that inner critic, understanding where it learned to speak this way, and slowly making room for something fairer.

The voice that runs you down
Low self-esteem is rarely loud. More often it hums in the background, second-guessing decisions, replaying small mistakes, and setting a bar you could never quite reach, running the show for years without being named. You might look capable from the outside while privately feeling like you are falling short.
That inner critic usually started as protection, learning that staying small or getting there first would keep you safe from judgment. The trouble is it never clocks off, and its running commentary shapes what you attempt and what you avoid. For teens, this can look like harsh self-judgment about grades, looks, or friendships, and the same gentle approach applies.
Patterns you might recognize
Self-criticism wears a few familiar outfits, and most people recognize at least one. See if any of these sound like you.
- Harsh self-talk you would never aim at a friend
- Brushing off praise while collecting every slip
- Saying yes when you mean no, to keep the peace
- Chasing perfect, then feeling like it is never enough
You are allowed to speak to yourself the way you would to someone you love.
Building something steadier
We start by getting to know the critic rather than fighting it head on. Using CBT, we examine the thoughts that pass as fact and test them against the fuller picture. Using ACT, we practice letting harsh thoughts come and go without letting them steer, so your choices answer to your values instead.
This is not about forced positivity. It is a steadier, more honest sense of worth that does not depend on your last performance. If something clinical like depression sits underneath the self-criticism, diagnosis and medication are matters for a medical provider, and I can work alongside them. Progress here tends to be quiet: a decision made without the usual spiral, a compliment that actually lands, and we build on those small shifts week by week.
