Intimacy and Connection

Room to talk about intimacy, honestly

Intimacy is one of the hardest things to talk about, even with the people we are closest to. Sex therapy is talk based and respectful, a calm place to put words to desire, closeness, and connection.

What brings people in

People come for many reasons, and few are dramatic: desire that has faded or feels mismatched between partners, difficulty feeling close after conflict, illness, or stress, or questions about intimacy that never had a safe place to be asked. Sometimes the body and the relationship are speaking to each other, and it helps to have a calm room to listen.

This is talk therapy. Nothing physical happens in session, and nothing explicit is expected of you. Intimacy shifts with time, health, parenthood, and stress, and naming it out loud is often where the pressure starts to ease.

For couples and for individuals

With couples, much of the work is communication: learning to say what you want and to hear a partner without old defenses taking over. Small changes in how a hard topic is raised can shift the whole tone between you, and we practice gentler ways to come back toward each other.

On your own, there is room to explore your relationship with desire, confidence, and closeness, including the beliefs and experiences that shaped it. Some concerns have a medical side and belong with a physician, and I am glad to work alongside your doctor when that would help.

Closeness usually grows in the safety of being understood.

Themes we might explore

Every situation is different, so we follow what matters most to you. A few themes come up often.

  • Desire that feels low, mismatched, or hard to name
  • Rebuilding closeness after distance or hurt
  • Talking about needs without shame or blame
  • Intimacy alongside stress, change, or health shifts

Wherever we begin, the work stays respectful and unhurried, and you decide what to bring into the room. Some people come for a few focused sessions, others stay longer to rebuild gradually. There is no single right way to do this, and no timeline to hit.
